Meryl Flocchini

I am honored to be chosen to serve on the Rural Roots Board of Directors because I believe Rural Roots is one of the most positive and progressive organizations in the Inland Northwest. My interest in filling this position is in representing my community in North Central Idaho to increase the availability of fresh, local, and organic (whenever possible) food and medicinal herbs to our community. As a director, I hope to have an influence in bringing more Rural Roots activities to this area and to encourage other growers in my community to be a part of our local food system. I bring a wealth of experience to the 2006 Board, including work on sustainable farms, where I secured water rights and assisted in creating a seed bank, supervision of organically-run greenhouses, landscape gardening, work in health food stores with a local focus, and over 20 years of experience in sustainable wildcrafting. This year, I helped create a farmers’ market in my community. Presently, my husband and I run Two Ravens Herbals, LLC, where we provide herbal medicines handcrafted from organic and sustainably wildcrafted plants. We also grow fruit and vegetables on certified organic land, which we market locally. As an herbalist, I view food as medicine and organically grown food is the best for our health.
