Rebecca Mirsky
Rural Roots Advisor
Former Idaho Organic Alliance (IOA) Director
An
environmental engineer specializing in soil biology and chemistry, Rebecca
has a particular and personal interest in sustainable agricultural
practices, permaculture and organic farming and gardening methods. Before
studying engineering, Rebecca graduated from the University of California at
Davis with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science. She then lived for two
years on an 80-acre farm in the Sacramento Valley, where she also worked
part time for a large animal veterinarian, vi siting local farms and dairies.
For financial reasons, she ultimately took a job with an
engineering/construction firm and worked on field assignments throughout the
US. After returning to school to study engineering at the University of
Tennessee, she took a job with Morrison Knudsen and moved to Boise in 1993.
Since that time, she has continued to work as an environmental engineer, and
also spent three years as an assistant professor in the Construction
Management Department at Boise State University. Rebecca has a deep and
abiding love for the natural world, believing that organic farming methods
are key to preserving the land for future generations and providing healthy
food for ourselves and our children. In addition to her work for IOA,
Rebecca also supports the Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides
and the Food Alliance.
